Back to Ecole

I have been to France and back (basically, the realization of my dreams). I went from Paris, progressively down and ended up in Nice. I was good not to let me stay in Paris too long, because of the urge to be Javert every time I got near the Seine. Clockwise from top left are Seine, Seine at night, Marie Antoinette's bedroom, the main square of Avignon, and my lunch in Amboise of Galette Salee (savory pancake). I didn't see anyone dressed like Lacoste's Francophile fall line (top right), aside from a troupe of boy scouts in Lyon (top right corner)

The Superficial "Versus"

Carissa did the Patrick Wolf vs. Mika post. I'm going to go the opposite of deeper and do a Patrick Wolf vs. Mika hair battle. I think it can be agreed that these two artists have some of the best locks in the industry, but whose is "a cut above the rest" (as Jaclyn Smith on Shear Genius...guilty pleasure...might say). Behold: My image formatting sucks, but here we have Patrick in every color, and Mika with his trademark lusciousness (luscious is really the only word appropriate). Whatever he does, no matter how dark his music is (which isn't bad at all), I always want to give Pat a hug for his adorableness and "ruffle" his chameleon hair. Perhaps Mika's would be better for serious petting and finger-running-through, though. I think I'll give my vote to Pat. He's closer to my height. I can't reach Mika's head.

Eh...Was This What My Childhood Was Missing?

Yes, now available for ages 3-7 are Children's Vespas. The trademark meditteranean vehicle has been seriously downsized. I was in a bit of shock to see this. I ran to my mam all the while spouting on and on about its coolness. Perhaps the "Sartorialist Jr.s" will be ridind them...

Much Belayed Travel Photos, and Street Style: Pet Edition

My trip to New York recently. Here is my slice of the apple:

This little guy was crossing the street in the West Village. I give him and his owner (a quirky homme) the honor of being the best dressed chien. St. Patrick's Cathedral, in the middle of 5th Ave. Truly amazing and beautiful. It was built and used by Irish immigrants, so it was originally quite daring to place it in the center of one of the richest areas of the city. Also amazing to see this gothic (or should I say neo-gothic) architecture in the middle of the high fashion boutiques, many of wich are rather modern in design.
The best cupcakes in Manhattan at Magnolia Bakery, which I ate at a small park accompanied by some pigeons.
One of the other highlights of my trip was conversing with a very enthusiastic employee at the West Village boutique Blush. He was from Barbados and had a comment from about everything from Rihanna to our similar red knit berets. Surprisingly, the said beret was a hit. A few guys called me out on it in the theater district.

Wear it Like Yasser

Instead of a silk scarf, try a keffiyeh. See more at La Femme and Village Voice

La Boheme

With this quirky Moulin Rouge poster, and a photo of Maggie Gylenhall in Monmartre attitude, in mind, I noticed a few examples of turn of the century boheme on the fall '07 runways:

Long, mystique, and bedecked with a top hat at Wunderkind. I was impressed especially by the hair and makeup at this show. Along with Paris in the early 1900s, A few peices brought to mind London in the time of Jack the Ripper...in a good way.

Streetwalking chic at John Galliano. Really, isn't this what we all want to see from JG? Fashion needs more showmanship.
